Politickernv.com's Joseph Cooper has the latest on the official GOP convention now slated for July 26th at the original scene of the crime, the Peppermill Hotel and Casino in Reno.
So what of the other convention? Remember, there is the unofficial convention for the Nevada Republicans (aka Ron Paul Revolution) that is slated for later this month in Reno.
If the Ron Paul Revolution (RPR) thinks that they can beat the state GOP in a fair fight, they may wait until their convention in July to take over. This gives both sides time to come up with a better strategy, and it takes away the state GOP argument that the Revolution is having a fake convention that should not be recognized.
The second option is that the RPR has their own convention anyway. They can see that the state GOP doesn't have their best interests in mind, so why play ball according to their rules? Going to their own convention on their terms gives them the upper hand. But why take this option when the RPR beat them once on their turf? The win deep in enemy territory would be the cleanest win.
Wally predicts that the RPR will have their own convention anyway. It is what the Revolution wants, and they do not trust the state GOP. Once they have their own slate of delegates chosen, will the RPR attend the other convention or boycott it?
There are downsides to both options. If they do not attend, their votes will not be counted. If they do, then they are admitting that it is the real convention and theirs was just a campaign rally.
The campaign comedy continues. More to come, either way.

July 26 is 2 days too late!
Reconvening the convention on July 26 would make it 2 days past the deadline! It would be invalidated based on state AND national rules. The competing convention has more merit even for McCain delegates!
Not sure you (Wally) get it.
Not sure you (Wally) get it. Ron Paul supporters will reconvene the convention, if they have a quorum, that should be it. There can't be a second convention in July. That's how I understand it, anyway.

Either Way
Either way this turns out, the Ron Paul Republicans of Nevada need to be applauded, commended and praised for all the hard work they have put into the freedom movement in their state. You are an inspiration to the rest of us RP supporters in the remaining 49.
All the best to you!

It might go that way...
Derek,
I think it could go that way in theory. But I don't see the state GOP saying "sure, that works for us." My guess is that they find some reason that they can not recognize your convention and recognize theirs instead. I see no scenario where the state GOP recognizes the first convention as legitimate.
Odds are the first convo will go on, then the first convo guys will say that the second convo is not needed/not valid. Then the state GOP will say there is no quorum for a second convo but will not recognize the first one.
And then it goes to lawsuits, because the RNC is not going to jump on board with the delegate slate from the first convention.
This is going to be a mess. The only things I feel confident predicting are that the Revolution will keep fighting all the way to the national convention, and the state GOP and RNC will keep fighting back.
Thanks for the feedback.

recess
The RP convention is the GOP main convention just coming out of recess which is how they left it. They called a recess and then could not form a quorum and went home. The rules have not time limit on how long a recess is for nor that it must come out of recess in the same location only that a quorum exists to do it. The GOP do over convention is 2 days after the national deadline so even if they (party leaders) have it and loose the national party can invalidate it. On the other hand if both are held and it goes to court all the rules are on the RP conventions side. theirs would be the more legal convention. People make it sound like they are causing trouble when they are just proactive trying to provide a solution to a problem. The party leaders only chose to have another convention after they announced theirs. Up till then they were going to vote the delegates by MAIL which nobody liked!

Question
How can the GOP not recognize the April convention?
It was the 'McCain' camp who was present and walked out. As Republicans they acknowledged the convention by mere attendance. When they saw Ron Paul steam roll over them, they walked.
