WSJ: Freedom’s Watch, Adelson could prove critical

Las Vegas casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson and his right-leaning advocacy group Freedom's Watch could be key in financing Republican campaigns across the country, according toa story in the Wall Street Journal.

As PolitickerNV.com reported, Freedom's Watch targeted congressional candidate and state Sen. Dina Titus (D-Henderson) earlier this month with a series of robocalls highlighting her lack of action on Nevada's high gas prices. In June, the group aimed at Rep. Shelley Berkley with allegations that she doesn't back U.S. troops.

Berkley balkes Adelson for calls

Molly Ball has a must-read story in today’s Review-Journal detailing Congresswoman Shelley Berkley’s allegation that robo calls made into her district calling her soft on support of the military come from her longtime rival, Sheldon Adelson. "There's only one reason this could be happening. There is no way Freedom's Watch would have picked my congressional district to run robo-calls, unless Sheldon Adelson directed them to do so,” Berkley told Ball. “It's as simple as that." Adelson vs. Berkley

It is nothing new to stretch the truth when running a campaign. However, Sheldon Adelson's right-wing group Freedom's Watch is running a robocall campaign against U.S. Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-NV) that is so far from the truth that it deserves a post of its own.

Freedom's Watch has a call that hits Berkley for not supporting the troops. The truth on this issue is that Berkley has proactive and steadfast in her support of Nevada's troops time after time.

Politico is reporting that the ad campaign establishes Adelson as the George Soros of the right, and ties Bible-belt GOP candidates to a gambling empire with ads that feature the candidate with a superimposed photo placed "onto images of a slot machine and a singer wearing gold lamé."

LAS VEGAS-The Republican National Committee announced new chairs for their 2008 fundraising effort  in an e-mail today.  The Nevada list is short on surprises, except that Steve Wynn, who has generally contributed to candidates from both political parties, is listed as an honorary co-chair.

The list names William Weidner, president and COO of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, as chairman with Sig Rogich, president of Rogich Communications Group, as co-chair.

Adelson-backed political group accused of collusion

The Politico released a story today that details a DCCC charge of collusion on the part of the NRCC and Freedom's Watch, an independent expenditure group funded in part by Venetian owner Sheldon Adelson.

    The full story:

For the lazy:  the DCCC says the collusion is obvious, the NRCC says the DCCC is making much ado about nothing.
