Romney to the rescue?

If recent polling is any indication, Libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr could make a dent in U.S. Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) vote total in Nevada.

Anjeanette Damon reports that some in the state are touting former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney (R) as a vice presidential running-mate, suggesting he could help McCain secure the state.

"Romney is a no-brainer," said Ryan Erwin, a Republican consultant from Las Vegas who advised Romney’s Nevada campaign. [...] "Romney takes this state from a slight lean-Republican to a heavy lean-Republican."

Blue ink for Nevada?

Yes, the ink was blue.  Tim Russert used a blue pen in his Thursday appearance on the "Today" show.   He showed how Nevada could go blue and be a key state in the race to the White House this year.

The efforts of Harry Reid have resulted in a huge registration pickup for the Dems, reinforcing an anti-Bush groundswell nationwide.  read more »

PolitickerNV Profile: Joe Brezny

Nevada Senate Caucus director Joe BreznyNevada Senate Caucus director Joe BreznyLAS VEGAS-In the coming weeks, PolitickerNV.com will be profiling some of the staffers and consultants who work so hard to get these guys and gals elected and us something to write about. Today's subject: Joe Brezny, executive director of the Republican Senate Caucus.

Brezny, 37, has spent much of his life actively working to get Republicans elected. While just in high school, he began his career as a "Students for Bush" volunteer in Columbus, Ohio in 1988.

"Back then it was licking stamps and stuffing envelopes and talking with other high school seniors about getting registered to vote," said Brezny. "That's something that I still try to do whenever I get a chance, is speak with high school seniors and say ‘here's what I think, politically. If you love that and want that to be what happens, register to vote and vote the way I vote. If you hate that, register to vote and vote against it. Either way, have a voice.'"

NO LOVE IN THIS REVOLUTION

After my reflections on the Romney campaign, I think t's important to show that I'm an equal opportunity offender. And our second place finisher in Nevada is looking to stir the pot this spring at the Clark County and State GOP conventions in some newsworthy ways.

A letter recently went out from the local campaign reps to the delegates suggesting some cloak-and-dagger tactics that aim to confuse and misdirect the delegate process.

Top of the ticket could spell trouble for Heller

Republican Congressman Dean HellerRepublican Congressman Dean HellerLas Vegas- Although the Republican and Democratic presidential primaries are still far from over, results from those races may be pointing to a tougher-than-expected reelection campaign for Congressman Dean Heller (R-NV) in the largely rural 2nd Congressional District.

The trouble for Heller, several observers believe, would come from the combination of a win in the Democratic primary for Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) and a lingering disaffection among Nevada Republicans over the loss of former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney in the GOP primaries.

“In Congressional District 2, most of the counties went to Barack Obama [in the Jan. 19 Democratic caucuses],” said Steve Platt, chairman of the Carson City Democratic Party.  “He was able to pull independents and Republicans in a pretty conservative congressional district to his side.”

Romney has no one to blame but self

Warning: If you really like
Mitt Romney, this may make you angry.

Former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney ended his presidential campaign today,
effectively handing two people a major victory in this presidential cycle: John
McCain and the American voter.

Romney’s campaign was the most contemptuous of the American people that this
former political operative has ever seen.  At every step along the way he
displayed an arrogant disdain for the voters’ collective intelligence,
concentrating on spin and story, polls and polish to a degree unseen in even
our nation’s media-driven, makeup-covered politics.
