Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.) files for reelection at the Clark County Government Center Friday.LAS VEGAS-Accompanied by staffers, Democratic U.S. Rep. Shelley Berkley filed for reelection today, setting herself up for a campaign against one of five Republican challengers.

"This is the most exciting time of the year for me," said Berkley, 57, "and I'm going to campaign as if I have the most serious and challenging race of my life and let the voters decide in November whether they want to rehire me."

Most of us are prepared to do our duty for the economy and run out and spend that $300 tax rebate on shoes or a fancy dinner.

Kenneth Wegner is taking a different approach.  In this year of the Democratic groundswell, he is going up early on TV against Berkley.  And this is in a district where he only has to find 60,000 Democrats who will cross party lines to support him to win. 

U.S. Rep. Shelley BerkleyLAS VEGAS-Republican Kenneth Wegner has made his first ad buy of the cycle in his newest effort to unseat Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley in Nevada's 1st Congressional District.

The commercial, produced by Caples Productions in Las Vegas, began running Sunday and will be on the air "from now until November 4th," according to Wegner. He described the buy as "700 commercials a week" and said they were airing all over cable including on the Food Network, the Travel Channel, Discovery, MSNBC and the History Channel.
