Politicker Photo.DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and 3rd District congressional candidate Dina Titus.: Van Hollen and Titus held a press conference Thursday at a Las Vegas gas station. Politicker Photo.LAS VEGAS -- Democratic 3rd Congressional District candidate Dina Titus held a press conference today in front of a Shell gas station in which she blamed the rising cost of gasoline on the Bush administration and her opponent, U.S. Rep. Jon Porter (R-Nev.).

Citing gas prices that hit an average of $3.94 in the 3rd district today, Titus, joined by Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), said the way to reduce gas prices was through new legislation to prevent price gouging, repealing tax breaks for big oil companies and expanding development of renewable fuel sources.

"The people in this district are hurting because of the Jon Porter/George Bush agenda," said Titus. "It's hitting them in the pocket book and not just with the cost of gas."

Obama Las Vegas trip leads to McCain back-and-forth

Ill. Sen. Barack Obama leads a town hall meeting at the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas Tuesday.: Politicker Photo.Ill. Sen. Barack Obama leads a town hall meeting at the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas Tuesday.: Politicker Photo.LAS VEGAS-In his first trip back to the Silver State since losing Nevada's Jan. 19 Democratic precinct caucuses, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) continued efforts Tuesday to tie presumptive Republican nominee U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) to President Bush and discussed specific proposals to address southern Nevada's mounting home foreclosure crisis.

Obama's visit with a Las Vegas family and his town hall meeting at the College of Southern Nevada coincided with a since-cancelled fundraiser for McCain in Phoenix tonight that would be hosted by Bush, something Obama referenced immediately upon taking the podium.

"Today, John McCain is having a different kind of meeting," said Obama. "He's holding a fundraiser with George Bush behind closed doors in Arizona. No cameras. No reporters. And we all know why. Senator McCain doesn't want to be seen, hat-in-hand, with the President whose failed policies he promises to continue for another four years."
