Halverson husband cops plea

The estranged husband of Judge Elizabeth Halverson has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors in the assault case against him.  Edward Halverson has been accused of beating his wife with a frying pan. He plead guilty to one felony —battery domestic violence with use of a weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm.

He has agreed to serve three to ten years in state prison.

Judge Halverson has surgery for skull fractures

Judge Elizabeth Halverson had surgery on Friday at Sunrise Hospital for skull fractures.  Judge Halverson was allegedly beaten with a frying pan by her husband, 49-year-old Edward Halverson.  He has been taken into custody and booked on attempted murder charges.

Judge Halverson hospitalized after attempted murder

Disturbing news from the Review-Journal:

"District Judge Elizabeth Halverson was hospitalized after her husband beat her with a frying pan, Las Vegas police said this morning. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

Her husband, Edward Halverson, 49, was booked into the county jail on attempted murder and battery charges."

State Supreme Court to hear term limits cases

The Nevada Supreme Court today announced that they will take up the term limits issue in a "triage session" on June 13th. The underlying issues that led to the filing of the cases will not be argued except to help the court determine how to proceed.

The case management session will follow three oral arguments before the full court the morning of June 13. Two deal with terms of office for elected officials and the third will address whether candidates for District Court judgeships must reside in the judicial district where they are seeking the bench.
