Senate Majority Leader Bill Raggio told PolitickerNV.com that he’s still undecided about seeking re-election next year. His seat is not in jeopardy – it’s a likely Republican hold – but his retirement, or even the suggestion of one, would be truly historic.
Under state term limits laws, Raggio would be eligible to run again in 2008, and would have to retire at the end of 2012, when he would be 86-years-old.
The 81-year-old Raggio, a Senator since 1972 and a very real statewide candidate in the 1960’s and 1970’s, has been a fixture in state politics for five decades. Several generations of Nevadans have never experienced politics without his strong presence. His departure leave Harry Reid as the last remaining elected official of an era where politicians like Paul Laxalt, Howard Cannon, Alan Bible and Mike O’Callaghan dominated the Silver State.
