Poll shows a 3-way Democratic race

The RGJ’s Anjeanette Damon has the new Research 2000 Nevada presidential caucus poll numbers. The survey, conducted January 11-13, has a 4.5 percent margin of error. The sample size is 500 likely Republican caucus voters and 500 likely Democratic caucus voters.

On the Democratic side, Ill. Senator Barack Obama leads with 32%, followed by New York Senator Hillary Clinton with 30%, and North Carolina Senator John Edwards with 27%. Those numbers show a sharp shift from the November Research 2000 survey, which had Obama at 20%, Clinton had 45%, and Edwards had 27%.

On the Republican side, Arizona Senator John McCain leads with 22%, followed by former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani with 18%, Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee with 16%, and former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson with 11%. The November survey had McCain at 8%, Giuliani at 29%, Huckabee at 6%, Romney at 22%, and Thompson at 15%.
