A group of fraud victims today received a total of more than $200,000 in restitution resulting from the Secretary of State’s investigation and Attorney General’s prosecution of two cases of securities-related fraud.; At a press conference today, a group of some of the victims received their checks from Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto and Secretary of State Ross Miller.
The two cases targeted primarily Hispanic citizens in one instance, and senior citizens in the other. Carlos Reyes-Roman pled guilty to one count of conspiracy to sell unregistered securities, stemming from his sale of unregistered securities through two companies, International Hispanic Investors LLC, and Amigo Investors LLC. In August, Reyes-Roman was adjudicated guilty of Conspiracy to Sell Unregistered Securities and as part of the imposed sentence ordered to pay full restitution of more than $20,000 to the victims. In the second case, Jeremy Stamper is facing up to six security-related felony counts for the sale of unregistered securities and transacting business as an unlicensed broker/dealer. Stamper has agreed to restitution of more than $200,000 to the Nevada victims and further adjudication of his case is pending
“This check presentation is an opportunity for us to send a message to Nevadans, and to those who attempt to defraud Nevadans,” said Secretary of State Ross Miller. “We have here one case that involves more than $20,000 and another case that involves more than $200,000. The point is, we are going to thoroughly investigate cases of fraud regardless of the dollar figure involved. Victimization of any Nevadans, from any segment of our community, for any amount is unacceptable.”
"I am proud of this joint effort with the Secretary of State's office," said Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto.& "To be able to successfully prosecute these two cases and have this restitution go to the victims is the best possible outcome."
Secretary Miller and Attorney General Cortez Masto also thanked Nevada Assemblyman Mo Denis (D-Las Vegas) for his intervention and assistance on behalf of the victims. Several of the victims made their initial complaints about Reyes to Assemblyman Denis, who then worked with the Secretary of State’s office on behalf of his constituents.
The Secretary of State’s office operates a toll-free hotline for reporting complaints of possible securities and investment fraud. The number is (800) 758-6440.
