McCain to attend Las Vegas fundraiser

LAS VEGAS—Ariz. Sen. John McCain will be in Las Vegas Friday, attending a high-dollar fundraiser on the heels of the presumptive Republican nominee’s three-day campaign swing through California.

The “Finance Luncheon,” organized by top Nevada Republicans Sheldon Adelson, CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, Terri Lanni, Chairman and CEO of MGM/Mirage, and Sig Rogich, former American ambassador to Iceland and president of the Rogich Communications Group, will be held at Adelson’s Venetian Resort Hotel Casino and will cost a minimum of $1,000 per person or $2,300 for a private reception and photo opportunity with McCain.

McCain, who clinched the Republican presidential nomination Mar. 4, is taking advantage of the ongoing Democratic primary to raise money and unite what many observers consider to be a divided Republican party. Today, in Southern California, he delivered what was billed as a major economic policy address. Later this afternoon he will receive the endorsement of former First Lady Nancy Reagan.

McCain’s fundraising in Nevada has been lackluster to present, having received only $375,117 in individual contributions in the state out of more than $60 million raised across the country, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney far outraised McCain in the state and Adelson, although he supports McCain now, had previously backed former N.Y. Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
