(Las Vegas) - "Nevada taxpayers are depending on leadership to fix the budget shortfall. It is clear that rolling back the cost of living adjustments for teachers and other workers is not only a bad idea but that it doesn't have the support of our elected legislators," said Nevada Democratic Senate Leader Steven Horsford. "Reports indicate that the shortfall will be between $60 and $95 million, and we don't need to make the budget shortfall worse by holding a costly special session."
"We need to take responsible steps to address the budget shortfall and deliver a balanced budget for Nevada taxpayers. As the special session rapidly approaches, we are calling on the Governor and our colleagues to sit down, look at the state's general fund budget and come up with the necessary adjustments to balance the budget now and avoid an unnecessary and costly legislative session."
"As we move forward with budget recommendations, it is vital that we seek the input of Nevada residents and create a blueprint that lays out the priorities for what we want Nevada to be now and in the years to come. Like any family, when times are toughest it is vital to identify our spending priorities. We must work together and identify the budget priorities for the Silver State and spend our dollars wisely."
