LAS VEGAS-Former Clark County Commissioner Yvonne Atkinson Gates endorsed Ill. Sen. Barack Obama today, according to the Associated Press. Atkinson Gates, a Nevada superdelegate, was a member of the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee that met this weekend to determine the fate of Florida and Michigan's delegates to the Democratic National Convention.
Atkinson Gates said last month that she would remain neutral until after the meeting of the committee so that she wouldn't give a semblance of conflict of interest.
With the addition of this new superdelegate, Obama now leads Clinton among Nevada superdelegates 3 to 2. Obama's other superdelegates in the state are Nevada Senate Minority Leader Steven Horsford and party 1st Vice Chair Theresa Benitez Thompson. Clinton's two are U.S. Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-Las Vegas) and state Sen. Dina Titus.
Three Nevada superdelegates have yet to endorse, state Democratic chairman Sam Lieberman, Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto and U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
