Facing felony charge, Allen continues legislative work

LAS VEGAS-Despite a weekend arrest on charges of battery with a deadly weapon, Assemblywoman Francis Allen was back to work today, attending a meeting of the legislature's Information Technology Subcommittee in Las Vegas.

"She looked okay," said state Sen. Bob Coffin (D-Las Vegas).  "She didn't look like she had been through anything."

"She got there early and jumped right into it all.  She did ask questions and participated."

Allen was arrested early Saturday morning after her husband, Paul Maineri, told Las Vegas Metropolitan Police investigators that she had stabbed him in the arm with a steak knife.  Allen disputed that, saying that Maineri had "done it himself," according to the police report.

Allen's lawyer, Richard A. Wright, repeated Allen's denial Tuesday and added that "At the appropriate time, the true facts will become known and she will be exonerated."

Despite the seriousness of the charges against Allen, fellow legislators withheld judgment on her Wednesday.

"I haven't talked to Francis so I'm not sure exactly what's going to happen with her campaign," said Republican Assembly Minority Leader Heidi Gansert.  "I'm not sure yet where we are.  I guess I don't have any judgment because I haven't had a chance to talk with her."

"Assemblywoman Allen is a colleague and a friend and it's unfortunate," said Democratic Majority Leader John Oceguera.  "I hope it is resolved for her sake, but it doesn't look real good for her right now politically."

Assuming she continues her campaign for reelection, Allen will face three Republican challengers in the Aug. 12 primary this year.  Like Allen's colleagues, they are also none too eager to make hay of her current troubles, or at least not yet.

Andrew Brownson, one of the Republicans challenging Allen, said it would not be appropriate to ask or force her to resign for her "personal habits."

"I don't believe in that," said Brownson.  "As far as her legislative record, we might want her to resign over that."

Yes, Andrew. We all have "personal habits" that others might not like. Perhaps you chew your fingernails. Maybe someone else clicks their pen. So Fran likes to bounce checks and stab her husband. Lets not nitpick.

So stabbing is no more than a "personal habit"?

ROTFLMAO!

So what is she - another Manson family recruit or something?!?

So let's play Clue here from her attorney's point of view: Francis did in the kitchen with a lead pipe?

Funniest thing I've read since he defended Chrissy.

Florida

Wow. This seems more like Florida style stuff. Not a refined Nevadan. What is this State coming to?

Wow, if she was a he and he

Wow, if she was a he and he stabbed his wife, politicians would be falling over themselves to condemn the perpetrator. As it stands, since she's a she, she gets a free pass??? Gotta love male disposability.

Brownson

It's comforting to see that a woman can stab a man for "embarassing" her and still be supported by the gutless pseudo-males around her.

Paul Maineri should dump her

Paul Maineri should dump her, and she should stay single, a guy is much better of single than with a
violent fruit cake.

nvpoliticker, you're using

nvpoliticker, you're using an old mug of allen. At least use the one from the most recent session
Trying to be helpful.

Thank you helpful

Assemblywoman Allen's more recent legislative picture has replaced the older one.

Thank you for your helpful comment, helpful.

Typical

Typical double-standard. Her gutless colleagues don't want to criticize her behavior in a public forum because they fear the wrath of female-chauvinist voters, i.e, the "Shadow Matriarchy".

Francis "Slasher" Allen for Assembly

I suggest the following slogan for Ms. Allen's campaign:

"I will slash wasteful government spending and my husband."

Our Constitution

People reading this page should have a strong understanding of our Constitution. Do you remember the part of "Innocent until proven guilty"?

Cowardice of other legistlators

The men quoted in this article, what a bunch of testicle-less coward who are scared of the radical feminists' potential reaction. Why can't they criticize this psycho? Doesn't anyone realize that 50% of DV is committed by women, yet when a man is merely accused of DV, he is tarnished for life. This woman's husband has wounds with medical records to prove it. She looks psycho. These comrade females claiming "she's a friend" are just as psycho. They must think that Allen is a victim or "she must've had a good reason to stab him". For crying out loud. Men haters and limp-wristed, spineless cowards all up in our government.
