Filing continues…

LAS VEGAS-Since PolitickerNV.com last reported on filing Monday evening, a large number of incumbents and a few new challengers have tossed their hats into the proverbial political ring.  Here's a brief rundown of those newly filed candidates.

Congressional District 1: Republican Kenneth Wegner has filed to challenge incumbent Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley.  Wegner is the fifth Republican now to file along with Ray Kornfeld, Ed "Mr. Clean" Hamilton, Chris Dyer and Mike Powers.  Whichever Republican wins the primary will face a virtually insurmountable voter registration advantage for Berkley of more than 21 percent.

Rural Senate District: Incumbent Republican state Sen. Dean Rhoads has filed for reelection.

Senate District 1: Incumbent Democratic state Sen. John Lee has filed for reelection as well as Republican challenger Ron McGinness.  There are more than 10,000 more Democrats than Republicans in the district.

Senate District 11: Incumbent Democratic state Sen. Mike Schneider has filed for reelection.

Assembly District 3: Incumbent Democratic Assemblywoman Peggy Pierce has filed for reelection.

Assembly District 4: Incumbent Republican Assemblywoman Francis Allen has filed for reelection.  She will face at least one primary challenger, Richard McArthur, who filed Monday.

Assembly District 5: Democrat Marilyn Dondero Loop has filed to run for Republican Valerie Weber's open Assembly seat.  Weber is running for the Clark County Commission and has endorsed Donna Toussaint, who filed Monday, to succeed her.  Democrats hold a slight voter registration edge over Republicans in the district.

Assembly District 12: Republican Dallas Augustine has filed to challenge incumbent Democratic Assemblyman James Ohrenschall, who has yet to file.  Augustine is the daughter of murdered former state Controller Kathy Augustine, who began her political career representing District 12.  There are more than twice as many Democrats as Republicans in the district.

Assembly District 14: Republican Dennis Cox has filed to challenge incumbent Democratic Assemblywoman Ellen Koivisto, who filed Monday.  Democrats' voter registration advantage in the district is more than 22 percent.

Assembly District 16: Republican Jack Nino has filed to challenge incumbent Democratic Majority Floor Leader John Oceguera.  Democrats' voter registration advantage in the district is more than 15 percent.

Assembly District 25: Incumbent Republican Minority Leader Heidi Gansert has filed for reelection.

Assembly District 27: Democrat Glenn Fruehan has filed to challenge incumbent Democratic Assemblywoman Sheila Leslie.  Fruehan faced Leslie in the 2006 general election and lost by more than fifty percent.

Assembly District 29: Democrat April Mastroluca has filed to run against Republican Sean Fellows in retiring Assemblywoman Susan Gerhardt's seat.  Mastroluca announced that she was entering the race only late last month and will face a tough campaign against Fellows, who has been working the district for months and has claimed to have raised more than $100,000 for his campaign.

Assembly District 35: Incumbent Republican Assemblyman Pete Goicoechea has filed for reelection.

Assembly District 37: Incumbent Democratic Assemblyman Marcus Conklin has filed for reelection.

Assembly District 38: Incumbent Republican Assemblyman Tom Grady has filed for reelection.
