LAS VEGAS-- Filing began this morning for non-judicial candidates in the Silver State, officially kicking off the election season. Newly filed candidates in Clark and Washoe Counties: Congressional District 1: Yet another Republican has filed, Mike Powers. Still no sign of Ken Wegner. Congressional District 3: Independent Jeffrey Reeves and Independent American candidate Floyd Fitzgibbons have filed to drain a few votes away from Republican Rep. Jon Porter. Assembly District 4: One Republican, Richard McArthur, has filed to challenge Assemblywoman Francis Allen in the GOP primary. Another primary opponent is expected. Assembly District 6: Democratic Assemblyman Harvey Munford has filed for reelection. He was unchallenged in 2006. Assembly District 7: Democratic Assemblyman Morse Arberry Jr. has filed for reelection. Non-partisans nearly outnumber Republicans in his district. Assembly District 11: Democratic Assemblyman Ruben Kihuen has filed for reelection. Culinary Union workers had hinted earlier in the year that he may face retribution for going against them and endorsing N.Y. Sen. Hillary Clinton in the Democratic caucuses. At present, he does not face a challenger. Assembly District 16: Democratic Assembly Floor Leader John Oceguera has filed for reelection. Assembly District 19: Democratic Assemblyman Jerry Claborn has filed for reelection. Assembly District 20: Republican Assemblyman Joe Hardy has filed for reelection. Assembly District 41: Democrat Paul Aizley has filed to succeed Assemblyman David Parks, who is running for Senate District 7A. Assembly District 42: Republican Carole Donald has filed to challenge Assemblyman Harry Mortenson.
