Parks Announces Bid for Senate 7 Seat

Democratic Assemblyman David Parks announced today his intention to file for the State Senate in District 7. The current senator, Dina Titus, announced she will not be seeking reelection in order to run for the United States Congress in District 3.

Parks, who has represented District 41 since 1996, is currently Assembly Chairman of the Select Committee on Corrections, Parole and Probation.

"I'm excited for the opportunity to represent a larger constituency and continue fighting to make Nevada an even better place to live, work and raise a family," Parks said. "I commend the work Senator Titus has done and I hope to continue her legacy of service to the district."

During his legislative tenure, Parks has served as chairman of the Government Affairs and Taxation committees. He has also been in leadership, serving as Assistant Majority Floor Leader and Assistant Majority Whip.

Widely acknowledged for his knowledge of finance and budgets, Parks said he hopes to continue providing help and insight in this area as a member of the Senate.

"With the state's current budget crisis, I strongly believe my experience on the Ways and Means and Taxation committees will be of value as we seek answers to these tremendous challenges," he said.

As an Assemblyman, Parks had a strong public safety record, fighting to increase penalties for those who abuse and exploit seniors, while stiffening penalties for those who exploit and neglect children. He has also been a leader on issues such as education funding and healthcare.

Parks, 64, is a veteran of the United States Air Force and has an MBA from UNLV. He was formerly the budget director for the City of Las Vegas and the assistant director for the Regional Transportation Commission.

Parks has received numerous awards during his political career, including being voted Best Local Politician in a 2003 newspaper survey; and has always received accolades for his legislative work from media and colleagues.
