Press Release

After Failed Gubernatorial Bid, Questions Remain for Titus

Release Date: May 1 2008

Washington- Dina Titus couldn't convince the voters to allow her to take her extreme agenda to Nevada's Governor's office, and she will have a similarly hard time convincing the voters of Nevada's 3rd District to let her take her extreme views and values to Washington.

In a time of economic uncertainty, Dina Titus will have to answer the tough questions about her support for raising taxes on Nevada families.

Do you plan on continuing your record as a tax hiker, if you are elected to Congress? What evidence do you have to the contrary?

  • Titus voted for Senate Bill 8, that according to the Reno Gazette-Journal,  "Last week, lawmakers finally agreed on a plan to fund public education and a bill that will add about $836 million in new or higher taxes over the next two years." (Reno Gazette-Journal, July 28, 2003)

You have a record of supporting fiscal irresponsibility. Will you take this record to Washington?

  • "Senate Minority Leader Dina Titus, D-Las Vegas, wants alternatives to more across-the-board budget cuts. Among her ideas: floating bonds to cover part of the revenue shortfall. That's the equivalent of putting general fund expenditures on a giant credit card." (Las Vegas Review-Journal, April 1, 2008)

The Democrat Congress in Washington has voted repeatedly for higher taxes and has supported the largest tax increase in American history. After national Democrats encouraged you to get into the race, will you be a rubber stamp for their tax and spend agenda?

  • "Democrats are trying to woo Titus into the race and praising her abilities as a candidate. Though she did not return calls from the Sun on Tuesday, in an e-mail to supporters, Titus said she has received calls from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Rep. Shelley Berkley and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid urging her to enter the race." (Las Vegas Sun, April 30, 2008)

"Dina Titus is out-of-touch with the values of Nevada and her long liberal record speaks for itself. The people of Nevada's 3rd District deserve someone who will fight for them in Washington, not someone who will fall in lock-step with the Democrats extreme agenda of higher taxes and higher spending -something Dina Titus knows quite a bit about," NRCC spokeswoman Julie Shutley said.
