Nevada Senate Minority Leader Dina TitusLAS VEGAS-Although Nevada Senate Minority Leader Dina Titus (D-Las Vegas) has not yet declared for the 3rd Congressional District seat now held by Republican Rep. Jon Porter, the National Republican Congressional Committee has already begun attempts to define her candidacy as "out of touch" and potentially "disastrous for Democrats."
"Dina Titus should think long and hard before launching a second long-shot campaign. Two losses in a row would be career-ending for her," said NRCC spokeswoman Julie Shutley in an early morning release.
"Nevada voters rejected Dina Titus in 2006 because of her liberal record for hiking taxes and giving benefits to illegal immigrants. She should think twice before launching another campaign that will surely end in defeat once again."
The release included links to two commercials that now-Gov. Jim Gibbons ran against Titus in their 2006 gubernatorial campaign, hitting Titus for voting to allow telemarketing companies access to personal information and for supporting giving drivers' licenses to illegal immigrants "after they were granted amnesty."
Titus, 57, is currently considering whether to step in for former Clark County chief deputy district attorney Robert Daskas, who withdrew his candidacy Monday. She has said her decision will come by the end of the week.
