RENO, NV: Jill Derby, candidate for Nevada's Second Congressional District, today reported a strong start fundraising for her campaign. In less than six weeks of full-time fundraising, Derby reported more than $143,000 raised with more than $133,000 cash-on-hand.
More than 80% of the over 450 contributors to Derby's campaign are from Nevada. Her success at fundraising across the state demonstrates the strength of her candidacy. It is clear that Nevadans are ready for change in Washington and support Derby's campaign to bring Nevada common sense to Congress.
"I am honored by the early grassroots support I have received in my campaign," Derby said. "The response has been simply overwhelming. In talking with people across Nevada I hear over and over again how frustrated people are about the antics in Washington. They support me because of the common-sense, no nonsense approach I will bring to Congress."
Derby, a fourth-generation Nevadan, started life on her family's Flying Flapjack Ranch in Lovelock and rural Nevada has shaped the values she holds today. She is a lifelong teacher and educator, and has a reputation as a problem solver and independent thinker. Derby is running for Congress because she's fed up with career politicians who put themselves and their party ahead of what's right for the country. Her campaign is focused on living up to the promises made to veterans, ensuring a secure nation, a sensible energy plan, affordable prescription drugs, accessible health care, and a fiscally responsible government that is focused on the needs of the people and not the special interests.
