LAS VEGAS-Donna Toussaint, the Republican candidate to succeed Valerie Weber in the 5th Assembly District, hosted a fundraising event last night at Captain's Cove Lakeside Bistro in west Las Vegas. About fifty people attended, including several other legislative candidates and a smattering of elected officials.
"It takes a lot of money to run a campaign," said Toussaint to the assembled contributors. "I had no clue. I thought ‘okay, I have $2,000, I can run.' It doesn't work that way."
Weber, who is facing a very stiff race to succeed Chip Maxfield on the Clark County Commission, told the contributors that they are getting a "treasure" of a candidate.
"This district needs to know what a great servant that Donna is," said Weber. "I'm here to support her every ounce of the way."
Also on hand for the event were Assemblymen Chad Christensen and Joseph Hardy, state Sen. Barbara Cegavske and Assembly candidates John Hambrick and Sean Fellows.
Currently, Toussaint does not have a Democratic opponent for the seat.
