The congressional campaign of state Sen. Dina Titus (D-Henderson) is touting its July fundraising numbers as a sign that Titus is pulling away from Republican opponent, U.S. Rep. Jon Porter (R-Henderson).

Lawmakers plan housing law changes
A panel studying Nevada's foreclosure crisis wants the 2009 Legislature to enact housing-related laws ranging from fines for illegal real estate practices to new protections for renters.
The panel chaired by Assemblyman Marcus Conklin, D-Las Vegas, will seek laws that increase the maximum fine for escrow agency violations from $500 to $10,000; require mortgage brokers to post bonds or carry liability insurance; and demand Nevada licenses or registration for out-of-state mortgage servicers. Pay raise issue leaves us wondering about judgment of the judges
Of all the positions on the public payroll, the ones you’d least expect there to be controversy would have to be those at the state’s Supreme Court. Those folks are supposed to be in charge of interpreting state law with precision and fairness.

Projections for Yucca revised WASHINGTON -- The Department of Energy on Tuesday issued new cost estimates for a Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository that would be bigger, would operate longer and would cost billions of dollars more than earlier planned. The department in a long-awaited report announced the price tag on the proposed Nevada waste site has grown to an estimated $96.2 billion.
