John Edwards’ second place finish in Iowa last night makes a Culinary endorsement in Nevada far less likely – if not impossible. Some Democratic insiders have suggested that Edwards’ only real chance to beat Hillary Clinton here was to secure the backing of Culinary.
Edwards is not expected to win New Hampshire, now a battle between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, but he’s not expected to have much difficulty securing third place over Bill Richardson. So Edwards has two opportunities to win if he has any hope of keeping his campaign alive: South Carolina, where he is running a fairly distant third, and Nevada, where he has assembled an impressive field organization.
