A pure toss-up state, a mix of demographic issues, booming population, foreclosure crisis in the south, moral issues of importance in the north, collectivist unions that matter and Libertarian feelings that matter: Nevada is a battleground state in the battleground West.
The Pindell Report, a new Politicker.com product, even calls Nevada the No. 1 presidential swing state this cycle.
"For those who enjoyed Florida in 2000 or Ohio in 2004, meet Nevada in 2008," said James Pindell, Politicker.com's Managing Editor and author of The Pindell Report.
The Pindell Report aims to provide the country's most dynamic and richly reported ranking and analysis of U.S. Senate, U.S. House and gubernatorial races, plus presidential swing states.
In addition to its lofty status as a presidential swing state, Nevada also has a top rated congressional race. Nevada's 3rd Congressional District race was listed as the 16th most-competitive U.S. House race in the country out of the 435 in this fall's elections.
"The past suggests this seat will be a close one and neither candidate suffers from a lack of name recognition," Pindell said.
The non-partisan report ranks races in order of their competitiveness. Therefore the No. 1 race in the country is the most likely to be decided by one vote. The race ranked last is believed to have a larger margin of victory -- no matter if it is a Republican win or Democratic win. In determining competitiveness the reports takes into account polling, fundraising, past election data, demographic changes and interviews with the nation's top political strategists. The report also heavily uses Politicker.com's reporters out in the field covering these elections for the network's state-based websites. The rankings are evaluated daily ensuring rankings are current.
