An internal poll shows Democratic state Sen. Dina Titus (D-Henderson) leading her Republican opponent, U.S. Rep. Jon Porter (R-Henderson) in the race for Nevada's 3rd Congressional District seat, the Las Vegas Review-Journal is reporting.
According to the paper, a poll conducted by Anzalone Liszt Research and funded by the Titus campaign shows the Democrat with a 43-39 lead over Porter. The poll featured a 4.4 percent margin of error.
When forced to choose between Titus or Porter -- eliminating the option of third party candidates -- 50 percent of potential voters surveyed picked Titus compared to 43 percent for Porter, the Review-Journal reported.
Considered one of the tightest congressional races in the country, the 3rd district race has drawn heavy attention from national Democrats who view Porter's seat as vulnerable to takeover.
Voter registration in the district has swung heavily over the last few years toward Democrats, who now enjoy an advantage of more than 20,000 voters. When Porter first captured the seat in 2002, registered Republicans outnumbered registered Democrats in the district.
