The Nevada Democratic Party is reporting on its website that Democractic state Sen. Dina Titus (D-Henderson) has raised $575,000 in her bid for U.S. Rep. Jon Porter's (R-Henderson) 3rd Congressional District seat.
The party says Titus has raised more than any other Democratic congressional campaign launched in the last quarter.
The Las Vegas Sun notes, however, that Titus still trails her Republican opponent by a considerable margin, but gives her props for amassing a sizable campaign fund in just two months.
In a statement published by the state Dems, Titus knocked Porter's record and said the campaign support she's received is a sign that voters in the district are looking for a change.
"Voters are paying more at the pump, and more at the grocery store. They’re worried about losing their jobs, and they know we’re spending billions a month in Iraq that we could be investing at home," Titus said.
"We’re not getting any help from Jon Porter, who just voted against middle class tax cuts for 60,000 families in the district. People want a change, and I am running for Congress to be a strong independent voice for families in Congressional District 3 struggling to make ends meet.”
The 3rd District has seen a large surge in the number of registered Democrats in recent years, a trend consistent with the state as a whole.
The national Democratic establishment has dedicated a good deal of attention to Titus' campaign, which could account for some of the candidate's fundraising success.
