State Dems connect Porter to Big Oil at demonstration

Jon Porter's (R-Boulder City) Nevada field office Monday morning in response to Porter's claims that he would submit gasoline receipts from voters in his district to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

The state Democrats said 30 people gathered outside of Porter's
office in Henderson to present the three-term representative with a mock receipt for the $210,000 in campaign donations they say Porter has received from oil companies.

After the rally, Nevada's Democratic Party released a statement on its website, calling Porter to task for what they called a pro-oil voting record.

“We want to tell Jon Porter the most important receipts are the ones he has collected in donations from Big Oil companies, because the contributions obviously are affecting his votes in Congress,” said Kirsten Searer, the party's deputy executive director.

“Nevadans are scraping by to make ends meet, and Jon Porter just voted against a middle class tax cut that would help 58,000 Nevadans in his district. Why did he vote against the tax cuts for middle class families? Because the cuts would have been funded by ending tax incentives to Big Oil companies that are making record profits.”

Last week, Porter said the Democratic leadership in Congress was to blame for high fuel costs. He said he would present gas receipts to Pelosi to nudge the speaker to action.

Porter will face off against state Sen. Dina Titus (D-Henderson) in November in a race that Democrats have targeted as up-for-grabs.

Time for Change

I was glad to see that the state Democratic party finally helped bring this to people's attention; since Porter became a congressman, gas prices have risen over 2 dollars and counting. What makes anyone think prices will get any better if we re-elect this guy? It is time for a change...

Porter?

I am not sure that Porter will make it to the General Election. His party is ready to dump him. He believes that he is his own boss!

Are you serious?

How can you be serious Time for Change? Have you even considered the facts for a minute?

When president bush was elected president in 2000, gas prices were 1.60 per gallon. The dems went into the the 2006 election shouting how about how they were going to win back congress and change things and lower gas prices. When they were elected in november 2006, gas prices were 2.28 per gallon.

That means that gas prices rose 80 cents in 6 years with Bush as president. Thats roughly 13 cents per gallon a year.

The liberals win office in November 2006, promising all kinds of things to the american people along the way. Now here we are in July 2008, about a year and a half later, and gas prices are 4.30 per gallon. That means in the 20 months since the democrats won office, gas prices rose 2.12 per gallon. Thats an increase of almost 11 cents a month, or 1.41 per year.

So, who do we have to blame for gas prices?

Derby

Derby, Bush, and the rest of the Grand OIL Party have done nothing but work for the oil companies.

Remember when Bush ran in 2000, he said that as he and Cheney were "oil men," they would take care of high gas prices. Too bad he didn't tell us what he meant.

Remember when

Remember when Bush and Cheney ran for president expecting 9/11 to happen? Expecting having to fight a global war on terror to defend us? Despite that, gas prices still only increased at 10% the yearly rate that it did under the democrats rule over congress.
