Confident Republicans question Beers’ and Heck’s vulnerability

Responding to Democratic claims about Sen. Bob Beers’ and Sen. Joe Heck’s electoral vulnerability, Nevada GOP Chairwoman Sue Lowden said Thursday that she is confident that both will be reelected.

“We have two extremely competent senators in Sen. Beers and Sen. Heck,” said Lowden. “They have represented their districts well and there’s no reason to believe that anyone could take issue with how they’ve represented their constituents.”

Nevada Senate Minority Leader Dina Titus said Tuesday in an interview with PolitickerNV.com that she expects both senators to be vulnerable in 2008 largely because of their records. She specifically targeted Beers, saying that his position of “no, no, no” on state spending will get him into trouble with his constituents.

“Everybody’s sitting in traffic, everybody has children in overcrowded class rooms and I think a lot of that will start to be seen as his fault,” said Titus.

Beers, a 48 year-old CPA from Las Vegas, disputed that claim Wednesday.

“The alternative,” said Beers, “which I presume she’s advocating, is to raise taxes in a special session, and I am clearly publicly opposed to such a thing.”

While he admitted that rising Democratic voter registration in his district “will play a factor” in 2008, Beers was also quick to point to the steps his campaign has already taken.

“I have my first 20,000 brochures, 500 t-shirts, and we’ll be starting neighborhood walks probably in January,” said Beers.

In 2004, candidates spent over half a million dollars in Senate District 6, a number that Beers believes may look small when compared to 2008. Confident in his fundraising ability, Beers acknowledged that the campaign could cost as much as $1 million, but stressed that his focus right now is on his constituents.

“I’m planning to campaign as hard as I can and as hard as I historically have,” said Beers. “And in the end someone will be elected to represent the district. I’ll be working hard to see that it’s someone who isn’t going to raise taxes and further expand government.”

While Nevada Democrats may be planning to target Sens. Beers and Heck, as yet no one has declared their candidacy against them, a fact which Lowden emphasized Thursday.

“The Democrats may be hopeful that they will prevail in the upcoming election,” said Lowden. “But first they need a candidate. In fact, they need two candidates and we haven’t seen even one yet.”

Heck's disaster

When Heck ran the first time, he came to the Henderson Sr center and said, yep, I'm for renewalbe wind-farm energy. Well, Nevada still has no wind-farm energy, yet wind is the fastest growing source of energy in the world, look at t boone pickens in TEXAS!!

He gave out a lot of BS and ice cream.

He then wrote some kind of manual on how to doctor people in terror attacks and made a $$killing!!

Dump him!!

Sen. Heck has voted in favor

Sen. Heck has voted in favor of every piece of renewable energy legislation since he was first elected. It takes more than one person to get a wind farm built and if you have read the papers lately you would see that one of the biggest obstacles has been the Air Force's concern and the federal efforts to overcome it.

His "terror attack" manual was written under contract for a non-profit education association and he received a small fee for the product.

Get the facts before you shoot off your mouth!

Cautious' comments on Heck

Cautious' comments on Heck are so off base, it's almost hard to not laugh as I write this. FYI, Sen. Heck is a STATE Senator, who, I believe has addressed and supported renewable wind farms among others. I don't think he can single-handedly get one going, not to mention that little ole' entity called the FEDERAL government! As a Democrat, I have been pleasantly surprised by Sen. Heck's ability to legislate effectively using common sense and intelligence, not back-handed methods. He responds to every email, phone call or letter I have written in the last 4 years. I am proud to say not only will I support him in 2008, I and my group, Democrats for Joe Heck, will be walking for him. It is long overdue that we have an honest and upstanding citizen representing us. Last summer, I received a questionaire from Sen Heck wanting to know my issues and concerns. I found out he sent out 2000 random surveys in his district to get ideas about concerns of his constituants before he drafted his bills for the 2007 session. Who in the world does that, in fact who ever did that? No one has ever displayed so much concern towards their constituants as he does. If 'caution' wants to be represented by a politician who says they by themselves can get wind farms in place yesterday, he should move to Dina Titus' district. But I'll bet she won't ever hand out ice cream to him.

Is "Cautious" serious? I

Is "Cautious" serious? I can only surmise that he was either drunk or high when he wrote his comment. District 5 is extremly lucky to have Sen Heck. I had the wonderful opportunity to meet he and his lovely wife at an event, and I can say unequivocally, he is probably the best legislator we have ever had, whether he be republican or democrat. I can only hope some day he chooses to aspire for higher office. I am also thankful that he is considered an expert on terrorism- and if he made some money (I doubt it was 'a killing'), good for him. I feel safe knowing he is close by. Mr. Cautious should get a life and some smarts before he gets what he wishes for- higher taxes, socialize medicine and more illegal immigrants eating your taxes.

Re: Heck and Beers Normally

Re: Heck and Beers
Normally I do not respond to posts but after receiving this article via webmail, I felt I must. I'm so glad that Mr. Cautious has affordable health care, a nice home where he can afford his mortgage payments, taxes that are not too high for him and he sleeps soundly not worrying about when or where the next terrorist attack will be. But by God, I want that wind energy! As a vet, I feel that Mr. Cautious is what's going wrong in our society- our country is literally becoming a cesspool of liberals who want to fix all of society's ills by taking more from those who have earned it and giving it to those who haven't earned it, don't want to or shouldn't get it. As a vet, I proudly stand by Sen./Dr./Col. Heck and his record. He has done more than right by us and has proven himself to more than capable of we elected him to do. If only we could replace Stinky (oops, I mean Pinky) Reid with Joe Heck- Nevada certainly would be a much better place. (Oh, and by the way, I am a full fledged moderate democrat- old time. Anyone who votes strictly down party lines and not the best candidate shouldn't have the right to vote).
I didn't fight in two wars to have you waste your precious vote holding someone to an unrealistic and second-rate futuristic goal. I guess Mr. Cautious has nothing better to chastise Sen. Heck on than the wind he is so full of. Relax Sen. Heck, you're safe on both sides of the fence.

Bob Beers and Sen. Joe

Bob Beers and Sen. Joe Heck
After having this column sent to me, I can only guess that Ms. Titus is on some sort of medication that makes her dillusional. You can't take a man (Heck)who has such strong morals and values, who is fiercly familial and makes us proud by serving in the military and possible think you can vilify him without feeling shamed, but my gut instict is she will try. Ms. Titus knows she is not a viable candidate for any office and can't be elected, so by golly, she'll become majority leader if it's the last thing she does. Even if it means she has to step on Sen Heck or Beers and slice n' dice 'em. The trouble with her plan is until now, she never met a match she couldn't handle or tear down. Until now.
I have never met anyone who relishes a good knock -down -drag -out head-to-head until I met Heck's feisty wife. The problem for Titus is Heck's better half is also smart politically . What a dangerous combination. There is certainly no love lost between the Mrs. and Titus. I almost think the Mrs. welcomes a chance to fill the gaping ice-pick-in-your-ear pie hole that Titus owns. Boy would I love to have a front row seat on that show! Odds anyone?

Beers and Heck Not being

Beers and Heck
Not being what soem would call politically active, this email that was forwarded to me causes me to stop and rethink my priorities.
Yes, I vote but never have I taken an active roll in getting candidates elected. I am a member of the teachers union and have to voice my concerns about Sen Titus' reasoning for wanting to get out my current senator, Joe Heck, and Bob Beers. Sen Beers has said things only the brave could dare say- things that concern the average citizen like myself and my husband. It seems Sen. Titus is only concerned with positioning herself to climb the political ladder, regardless of what is best for us. If I were able to vote for Beers, I would. Sen. Titus in embracing Hillary Clinton does a disservice to not only teachers, but women in general. What self-respecting woman can possible support another woman that looks the other way when her husband so dramatically humiliates her in the public eye? Not me, but judging from what I've read about Titus, I can understand. They are alot alike.
I will continue to support Sen Heck in his re-election and I want to thank Sen. Titus for opening my eyes to what is really important in the 2008 elections- what's best for me and my family. All day kindergarden and raising taxes is not. Continuing to support those who do not wish to enter this country illegally is not. And voting for someone, even though they are not the party you are registered for because they represent your best interest, is.
To the person who first posted a comment, Cautious, get a life, a real job and some basic education. Learn just what a State Senator is capable of doing for you and where their hands are tied. People like Hillary Clinton and Dina Titus are the ones tie their hands and are the ones who we should get rid of. Raising taxes seems to be the mantra of the Democrat party to support those who are only less fortunate because of their choices, and I will re-register as a Republican next week. Thank you Dina! You've made me see the light. Oh, and stop being such a sore loser and move on with your apparently miserable life. Try to be genuinly nice for just one day. You might like it.

disaster

Anti-monarchial republicanism remains a political force of varying importance in many states.

I wonder how they can

I wonder how they can question their credibility when they themselves are so questionable.!

09/08/08 5:24 am

Lmao..Republicans should

Lmao..Republicans should look at their own credibility before slinging mud at others.!

Campaign costs

If all that campaign money was actually spent on the causes they are fighting for, that would be money better spent.

Democrat or Repulican?

Wow, seems this is a hotly discussed topic for NV. I can't say I have followed these 2 politicians that closely. However, I can't say I'm overly impressed with either.
