With political eyes and ears in Nevada focusing on the presidential election and close contests to determine who will represent Nevada in the House of Representatives, a couple of big stories aren't getting the attention they might normally receive.
A story in the Nevada Appeal gives warning to budget cuts that could stretch far beyond what was earlier anticipated as a 14 percent cut.
Director of Administration Andrew Clinger has reported the state needs to cut an additional $250 million in spending this year. According to the story, Gov. Jim Gibbons (R-Sparks) is aware of the situation, but has not weighed in on where the cuts could potentially come from.
Gibbons dodged another bullet when he announced an FBI investigation that was exploring accusations of corruption surrounding the governor had been lifted, according to the Las Vegas Sun.
"In case you haven't noticed, there is a pattern of false accusations against me that become widely reported and then are proven to be absolutely untrue," Gibbons said.
