Rory Reid on potential gubernatorial run: 'You could add me to the list'

DENVER -- Rory Reid, the Clark County commissioner and son of U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Searchlight) is about as direct as he could be when it comes to whether he'll be eyeing the Silver State's governorship come 2010.

"I'm thinking about running myself, so you could add me to the list," Reid said this morning when asked which Democrats he saw as strong contenders for the race.

Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons is less than two years into his first term, but already Democrats see the Republican as beatable. Gibbons has faced a slew of personal problems. After filing for divorce with his second wife, Dawn, Gibbons has become known for an aggressive dating life and has been spotted with former Playboy Playmate Leslie Durant. A new poll has registered Gibbons' approval rating at 24 percent.

"I think he couldn't be more vulnerable," said Reid. "I think he's inept in almost every way and I think Nevadans need something different."

Asked what role his father would play in a potential campaign, the two-term commissioner said: "He hasn't really been involved in any of the races I've had and I expect I'll do it myself."

Reid was here today to attend a Marriott hotel breakfast for the Nevada delegation.
